Show Pony (feat. Hunter Sloane) Lyrics | R.J. Sloane feat. Hunter Sloane

Show Pony is a vicious, fast dark country duet between R.J. Sloane and Hunter Sloane confronting the performative transactionalism of a trophy couple. They don't love each other—they love the envy, status, and validation they generate together out in public.

The song strips away the polished image to reveal two parade-dress performers living in a cold, empty tomb when the audience goes home.

Shined the leather
Polished silver
Built a castle
No one's home

Rehearsed the posture
Curated smile
Fooled the crowd
For a little while

Fed the room
Bought the gaze
Living for
The cheap praise

You were my trophy
Made me look good
Loved the picture
Dead where we stood

Won the room
Lost the house
Show pony lovers
Living in a tomb

Best-dressed corpses
In the middle of town
Wearing a shadow
For a golden crown

Show pony
All flash
All flash

Door slammed shut
Lights go down
Power couple
In a ghost town

Cold shoulder
Separate bed
Living with
The words we said

Never loved me
Never tried
Loved the envy
On the outside

You were my trophy
Made me look good
Loved the picture
Dead where we stood

Won the room
Lost the house
Show pony lovers
Living in a tomb

Best-dressed corpses
In the middle of town
Wearing a shadow
For a golden crown

Show pony
All flash

Silver spurs
Velvet reins
Dressed for town
Free of stains

Parade saddle
Fancy stride
Nothing underneath
All pride

Bought the shine
Sold the soul
Two show ponies
Out of control

You were my trophy
Made me look good
Loved the picture
Dead where we stood

Won the room
Lost the house
Show pony lovers
Living in a tomb

Best-dressed corpses
In the middle of town
Wearing a shadow
For a golden crown

Show pony
All flash

Used my name
Used your grace
Staring at
A stranger's face

No real love
No real trust
Just two parasites
Feeding on dust

Won the room
Lost the house
Show pony lovers
Living in a tomb

Best-dressed corpses
In the middle of town
Wearing a shadow
For a golden crown

Show pony
All flash
Show pony
All flash
Show pony
All flash

Smile for the camera
Stabbing the back
Show pony
All flash
